ADMINISTRATION

Rev. James Presta   

(B.S., Psychology and Theology, Loyola University; M. Div. (magna cum laude) and S.T.L., Unversity of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary; S.T.D. (magna cum laude), International Marianum, Rome), ordained in 1986, is the Rector-President of the College Seminary and a theology instructor at the College Seminary.. He was a parish priest at St. Christopher Parish in Midlothian, Ill (1986-1993) and Queen of Martyrs Parish in Evergreen Park (1993-1996). In May 1996, Cardinal Bernardin appointed him the seventh rector-president of the College Seminary. Currently he serves on the Board of Advisors of Archbishop Quigley and Mundelein Seminary and is the Executive Secretary of the Board of Advisors of St. Joseph College Seminary. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Current academic affiliations include: National Association of College Seminaries (NACS), the National Catholic Education Association, Seminary Dept.(NCEA). as well as the Mariological Society of America. In 2005, he earned a doctoral degree, S.T.D. (magna cum laude), at the International Marian Research Institute (Dayton, Ohio) affiliated with the Pontifical University Marianum in Rome. His current work and research is in Mariology. He has given workshops, days of recollection and parish missions on the Blessed Virgin Mary. On weekends he celebrates Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Calumet City. He enjoys travel, especially to Europe. He also enjoys reading and teaching theology, reading American history, and languages, especially studying Spanish and Italian.



Rev. Paul Cao   
(B.A., Philosophy, Loyola University; M.Div., University of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary) was ordained in 2001. He was an Associate Pastor at St. William Parish in Chicago, IL from 2001 to 2005. He was a Spiritual Director at St. Joseph from 2004 to 2005. In July 2005 he became Director of Liturgy and a member of the Formation Team at St Joseph. He is also an alumnus of St. Joseph, class of 1997.






Sr. Judith Anne Haase, O.P.

(B.A., Mathematics, St. Ambrose, Davenport, IA; M.A., NonPublic School Secondary Administration) is a Dominican Sister of Springfield, Illinois. For most of her ministry, she taught students in elementary and secondary schools in Illinois. She was the principal of Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL from 1983-1992 and principal for six years of a high school in Hammond, Louisiana. She was associate superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois for two years. For five years she served on the National Catholic Education Association Secondary Executive Board. From 1995-1999 she was the coordinator of the Vocation Office for the Archdiocese of Chicago. During this time she served on the Board of Casa Jesus and was Secretary/Treasurer of the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors Executive Committee. For four years she has coordinated the workshop sponsored by the NCDVD for new vocation personnel. For three semesters she taught math to the students at St. Joseph College Seminary at Loyola.



Rev. Paul Mueller, S.J.

(B.A., Physics, Boston University; M.A., Philosophy, Loyola University Chicago; M.Div. and S.T.M., Jesuit School of Theology Berkeley; M.S., Physics, Ph.D., Conceptual and Historical Studies of Science, University of Chicago) was ordained in 1993. He is the Academic Dean of St. Joseph College Seminary. He taught physics and mathematics at St. Ignatius College Preparatory School in Chicago from 1986 to 1989, and also served on Ignatius' Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2000. Since 2004 he has served on the Board of Trustees of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago. He has been an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University since 2004. In his teaching and writing, he focuses on philosophy of science and on seventeenth-century philosophy.



Rev. Peter Snieg

(B.A., Northeastern Illinois University, S.T.B., M.Div., S.T.L., Unversity of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary;) was ordained a priest in 1993. Prior to ordination, he taught briefly in the Chicago Public School system and was a manager for a large local grocery chain. After ordination, he was Associate Pastor of St. Priscilla parish for two years while teaching at Quigley Preparatory High School Seminary. In June of 1998, he became the Dean of Formation, and in June of 1999, he was appointed the Rector of Quigley. Father Snieg served as Rector, Dean of Formation and President of Quigley Seminary until its closure in June of 2007. In July of 2007 he was appointed Vice-Rector and Dean of Formation at St. Joseph College Seminary.


Rev. Gerald Walsh

(B.A., Psychology, Loyola University; M.Div., University of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary) was ordained in 1995. He was an Associate Pastor at St. James in Arlington Heights from 1995 to 1996; Associate Pastor at St George in Tinley Park from 1996 to 2001; Associate Pastor and Administrator of St Francis Borgia in Chicago from 2001 to 2005. He taught Sacraments, Church History, and Catholic Social Justice at Archbishop Quigley Seminary from 2005 to 2007. He was also a Spiritual Director at St. Joseph Seminary from 2005 to 2007. In July 2007 he became an Assistant Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Chicago, working specifically with recruitment for St Joseph Seminary. He is also a member of the Formation Team. Fr. Walsh is an alumnus of Quigley Preparatory Seminary North and of Niles College Seminary.


PART TIME FACULTY

Rev. Britto Berchmans

(Ph.D.) is an associate pastor at St. Anne's Parish in Barrington. He will be teaching Public Speaking - 101.



Rev. Timothy Fiala

(B.S., University of Illinois, Chicago; STB, M. Div., STL, Unversity of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary; STD, John Paul II Institute at The Catholic University of America) was ordained in 1996. He has been an associate pastor at St. Philip the Apostle in Northfield (1996-1997) while completing his STL degree; St. Cletus in LaGrange (1997-2000); Divine Providence in Westchester (2000-2001). In 2001 he was a part-time instructor for the fourth year permanent deaconate class for the Archdiocese of Chicago. He also taught moral theology classes for the continuing education of Catholic School teachers.




Rev. Keith J. Esenther, S.J.

(B.A., Philosophy, Loyola Uninversity of Chicago; M.A., English, and M.A., Theology, Loyola University of Chicago; PhL, Bellarmine School of Theology; STL, Jesuit School of Theology, Chicago; PhD in Organizational Development/Behavior, Union Graduate School, Cincinnati, Ohio) was ordained in 1971. He is the Director of St. Joseph College Seminary ESL Programs. He taught English, Speech, and Film Study at St. Xavier High School and Xavier University, Cincinnati (1965-68); Theology at Loyola University of Chicago ("LUC") (1969-1970); Scripture at UD Mercy, Detroit (1971-73). He was Principal of St. Ignatius College Prep, Chicago (1973-76); Dean of St. Paul’s Major Seminary, Sudan, East Africa (1977-1980); Chaplain of LUC Law School (1980-83); Special English Teacher at Loyola Academy, Wilmette (1983-85); Executive Assistant Provincial Chicago Province (1985-1990) and Detroit Province (1995-2001); Minister, then Treasurer, of LUC Jesuit Community (2001- ). He has served on the Board of Trustees of four Midwest Jesuit High Schools.

Rev. William M. Frigo, O.F.M. Cap.   

(M.S.W., Psychology, University of Milwaukee), ordained in 1963, is a Capuchin friar of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Professional Counselor for the state of Wisconsin. He teaches cultural anthropology and the Church in the World and is co-director of the Capuchin College Program at St. Joseph Seminary. Bill spent 5 years as a missionary in Nicaragua. Upon returning home he worked in inner city parishes and with migrant laborers in the Midwest and in Texas. He also worked in the mideast for a year and a half. He particularly relishes the interface of culture and faith and how the former is basic for the inculturation of the gospel in society and the evangelization of peoples. Bill lives with his Capuchin community at St. Clare Friary on the south side of town and volunteers twice a week at the Franciscan Outreach Association for the homeless.



Rev. Joseph Jackson, Ph.D.

(B.S., Psychology, Niles College of Loyola University; M.A., Counseling Psychology, Loyola University; S.T.B., M. Div., Unversity of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary; Ph.D., Social and Organizational Psychology, University of Chicago) was ordained in 1974. He has been associate pastor at St. Thaddeus (1974-79), St. Peter Canisius (1979-81), St. Hubert's in Hoffman Estates (1991-96), St. Thomas of Villanova in Palatine (1996-2001), and St. Ignatius (2001-2002) and pastor at St. Leo the Great (1981-1991). He has been administrator at St. Thomas of Villanova in Palatine (2001). He is presently pastor at St. Ignatius. He was an adjunct professor of Psychology at Loyola University of Chicago (1991-1993) and since then has been teaching teaching Psychology as St. Joseph's College.



Mr. Thomas J. Kleeman

(M.A., Education, Northern Illinois University) began teaching Physical Education in 1955. He spent the first 10 years at Quigley North Seminary and has been teaching at Niles College/St. Joseph Seminary since 1976. His interests include fishing, playing tennis, music, gardening, and reading.









Rev. Henry Kricek

(B.A., Loyola University; M.A., Catholic University of America; M.Div., S.T.L., Unversity of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary) was ordained in 1980. He has taught Philosophy at Loyola University since 1987 and at St. Joseph Seminary since 1994. At St. Joseph, he has also been Academic Dean.









Dr. William Joseph Napiwocki

(B.A., M.A., Ph.D., Classical Studies, Loyola University; S.T.B., Pontifical Faculty of St. Bonaventure, Rome) is teaching introductory Latin. Prior to coming to St Joseph Seminary, he was instructor of Latin and Biblical Greek, Chair of the Foreign Language Department, Assistant Principal for Personnel and Curriculum at Archbishop Weber High School, 1971 - 1991. He was instructor of Latin and Biblical Greek, Chair of the Foreign Language Department at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, 2000-2007. He is a former President of the Illinois Classical Conference, Chicago Classical Club, a recipient of the Latin Teacher of the Year from the Illinois Classical Conference and received an Ovatio for the service to the profession from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South.




STAFF

Mr. Heladio Chavez   

has worked at the Seminary since January, 2006 as the maintenance engineer. He has been married fourteen years to his wife, Mirella. They have four children.











Ms. Mayra DeLeon   

was born in Gautemala. She has worked at St. Joseph Seminary since 2004 as housekeeper. God has blessed her with two boys, Erick and Jorge, and a girl, Mayra. She is a member of St. Ita's Church.










Dr. Brian DuSell   

(D.M.A., Arizona State University; M.M., University of Notre Dame; B.M., University of Michigan-Ann Arbor) has been the Director of Music at St. Joseph Seminary since 2004 and is also the Director of Music at St. Ignatius Church, Chicago. Dr. DuSell and his wife Teresa have two sons, Brian and Severin.








Ms. Pamela Ferrarini,

transferred to St. Joseph College Seminary in July of 2007 to work in the newly established Quigley Alumni Office after working 10 years at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary High School. Prior to coming to St. Joseph she worked for a real estate management/maintenance company in Oak Park after having worked at Sears, Roebuck and Company for 24 years.








Mr. John A. Houlihan   

(M.S. Computer Science, U. of Illinois - Champaign/Urbana) has been with the seminary since 1994 as math and computer science teacher and as Network Administrator. He volunteers time once a week tutoring high school students at HighSight.









Mrs. Yuvanka Juárez-Zavala   

(B.A., Communication, Loyola University Chicago) joined St. Joseph College Seminary in 1996 as the Financial Aid Administrator. In 1999, she became the manager of Human Resources in addition to her previous position. Ms. Juárez-Zavala is married to Eduardo Zavala, Jr. and they have two beautiful children, Paolo and Ciena. She dedicates the majority of her free time to her kids and family, but likes to sneak in a movie/play/dinner here and there.







Ms. Vivian Y. Johnson

(B.S., Accounting, Roosevelt University) was born in Mississippi and was raised in the Catholic Church. She has been employed with the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1990. Vivian is currently a receptionist/secretary at St. Joseph College Seminary. Her other duties include working with the business office of the seminary.








Ms. Diana Kozojed   

(B.A. and M.A., History, DePaul University) is the Director of Institutional Advancement. Prior to joining the development team in November 2006 at St. Joseph College Seminary, she was the Special Events Coordinator at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary; development director at Mt. Assisi Academy, Brother Rice High School, and Mother Guerin High School; director of Project Outreach, a community outreach program, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church; and a history teacher at Quigley Preparatory Seminary South.







Ms. Carol Mackie   

(B.A. Honors, Media Management/Business, Columbia) is the Accounts Manager at St. Joseph College Seminary. Prior to joining St. Joseph, she worked as accountant and bookkeeper in various teaching and philanthropic institutions.








Rev. Laurence F. Maddock

(M.A., S.T.L., Unversity of St. Mary of the Lake - Mundelein Seminary) is a native of Oak Park, IL. He attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, IL. He was ordained a priest in 1956 and served in many different parishes in the Chicago Archdiocese, retiring in 2001 from the pastorate of St. Ita Parish in Chicago. He is past president of the Association of Chicago Priests and served as Dean of the north section of Vicariate II for thirteen years. He is starting his third year as Director of Spiritual Formation. He is fluent in Spanish and worked in the Hispanic community of Chicago for more than twenty-five years. He was a founder of the Instituto de Liderazgo Pastoral, the Chicago Catolico and the Hispanic Pre-Cana. He also reinstated the current program for the Hispanic Diaconate. He enjoys reading and exercise.



Ms. Kate Minogue   

(B.A. Sociology, Eastern Illinois University) joined St. Joseph College Seminary in 2006, working in the office of Institutional Advancement. Prior to coming to St. Joseph, she worked in the Little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation in Evergreen Park, IL.









Mrs. María Anabella Mora

(B.S., Education, Chicago State University; M.A. (cand.) Spanish, Loyola University) teaches Spanish and is also Assistant to the Academic Dean. She was born in Guatemala, Central America and has taught in a Chicago public school. Mrs. Mora and her family are actively involved in her parish, Our Lady of Mercy.







Ms. Debra Pucé   

(B.A., English Literature, Kansas St. University; M.S., Marketing Communications, Roosevelt University) is the Grant Writer and Development Associate for St. Joseph College Seminary. Her previous position was as Executive Director at the Lincoln Park Conservancy. She is a member of the Association Forum of Chicago and the National Center for Family Literacy. Debra and her husband have two young sons.







Mrs. Sally Walsh   

has worked at the seminary since January of 1998 as the Rector's secretary. She has been married for 41 years to Martin and has been blessed with eleven children and seven grandchildren. While being a full-time mother, she was involved with many school and community organizations.
