The life of the seminary community is centered on the Eucharist. The Eucharist is celebrated Monday through Saturday in the Chapel of Jesus the Priest. The Eucharist is celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Attendance is required of all seminarians at all weekday Eucharistic liturgies and is highly encouraged on Saturday.
Morning Prayer is celebrated Monday through Thursday in the Chapel of Jesus the Priest chapel at 7:30 a.m. Attendance is required.
Night Prayer is celebrated in the larger Seminary community on Sunday, Monday and Thursday evenings at 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jesus the Priest. Night Prayer is also celebrated on each of the student's floors on Tuesday evenings. Attendance is required.
Adoration and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jesus the Priest. Seminarians are expected to spend some time in prayer and meditation each week before the Blessed Sacrament.
Benediction is celebrated in the conjunction with Night Prayer every Thursday after Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. All seminarians are required to be present for Benediction and Night Prayer.
All seminarians are highly encouraged to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation frequently. The sacrament is celebrated every Monday afternoon from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the reconciliation chapel. Seasonal Reconciliation Services are celebrated each semester during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Attendance at the these seasonal services are required. Seminarians can also celebrate the sacrament with their individual spiritual directors.
Throughout the year a number of cultural and ethnic celebrations are celebrated in various liturgies.
These celebrations include: Our Lady of Czeschtowcha (Polish), Our Lady of Guadalupe (Hispanic/Latino), Our Lady of the Rosary (Italian), TET (Vietnamese), St. Patrick's Day (Irish), and an African-American celebration with choir.
Throughout the year the seminary celebrates many of the Church's rich devotions. The rosary is prayed every Friday at 11:30 a.m. during the months of October and May. These two months have been traditionally months devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Office of the Dead is prayed on the Fridays of November, the month in which the Church remembers it dead in a special way.
The Stations of the Cross are celebrated during the Friday's of Lent at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Jesus the Priest. The Way of the Cross is celebrated on Monday evening of Holy Week.
All seminarians are required to be in attendance.
The multilingual praying of the Rosary is held on Wednesday evenings at 9:00 p.m. All students are highly encouraged to attend the praying of the Rosary.
The Chapel of Jesus the Priest and the Mary Seat of Wisdom Chapel on the third floor are open at all times for private or communal prayer. The seminarians may gather on their own at various times for prayer meetings, charismatic prayer, recitation of the Rosary, Bible Study, etc. Personal prayer is always encouraged by the Spiritual Director, often by the homilist and/or by the Formation Director.
All seminarians are required to serve as ministers in each of the liturgical ministries: Eucharistic Minister, Reader, Acolyte, and Leader of Prayer (Morning and Nigh Prayer). Seminarians are scheduled in each of these ministries by the Director of Liturgy. All seminarians are highly encouraged to serve as Cantor, Choir Member and Musician. The Director of Music schedules all musical ministers.
The Liturgical Music program provides the seminarian with various ministries in which they can earn a liturgical credit. The goal of the program is to introduce students to different styles of music and the process through which the music is produced: knowledge of the liturgical function and place of music, reading musical notation, vocal techniques (leading to public-speaking benefits), the discipline of rehearsal and instrumental techniques.
Liturgical choir is open to entire student body. Rehearses once each week and sings at one Eucharistic Liturgy each week and on special occasions. The repertoire is taken from both traditional and contemporary music. It may be taken for academic credit (1 hour per semester).
The multilingual liturgical choir is open to entire student body. Rehearses once each week and sings at one Eucharistic liturgy each week and on special occasions. The repertoire emphasizes Spanish liturgical music, but also includes music from other languages that are reflective of the student body. It may be taken for academic credit (1 hour per semester).
